How to Use the IRS2Go App
- IRS2Go can help users in many ways from paying taxes on time to free tax preparation assistance and more.
- To start, simply launch the IRS2Go app from your app drawer.
- The app will prompt you immediately to the main dashboard that provides you quick access to Refund Status, Tax Records, Free Tax Prep Providers, and Stay Connected.
- You will also encounter a panel of icons below the screen that include access to Refund, Payments, Tax Help, Connect, and Security.
- To check your Refund Status, simply head over to the Refund section and input all the information needed including the Social Security number, the filing status, and the expected refund amount. You can check your refund status within 24 hours after the system received your e-filed return, or about four weeks after mailing your paper return.
- The app comes with a Direct Pay option that you can use absolutely for free. Simply visit the Payment section of the app and select between the two available payment options. You can pay using the IRS Direct Pay option or you can also settle it using your debit or credit card.
- Tap the Tax Help section of the app to access all the tools you need for free tax preparation. Choose IRS Free File to help you file your taxes using the specialized software.
- If you prefer receiving help in-person, tap either the Free Tax Prep Site Locator or the AARP Tax-Aide Site Locator to find a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) site near you and receive free tax help.
