How to Use Google Drive
- Google Drive is mostly pre-installed in most Android phones but if you do not have one yet, you can freely install the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store if you are using an iOS device.
- The first thing you need to do is to sign in using your existing Google Account. If you do not have one yet, you can sign up for a new account using the app itself.
- Signing up is important for its cross-platform synchronization that allows you to save everything across all of your devices. (Whatever you saved using the web-based version will be synced to all the devices that you are signed in.)
- The app initially offers free 15 GB storage which you can eventually upgrade by subscribing to Google’s fee-based plans.
- After signing in, the app prompts you to the home screen. There are four pages to navigate and you just have to tap their respective icons on the lower-most panel of the screen. These include Home, Starred, Shared, and Files.
- The Home tab will give you access to all the files you recently uploaded on your Google Drive.
- Tap the Starred icon to access those files that you marked or favorited
- Tap the Shared icon to access the files (photos and documents) that you have shared online or to other people using the link.
- Tap the Files icon to access all your folders containing all your files.
- You can also make the file available offline. To do so, tap the 3 dots icon below every file. This will show up a panel with a list of options. Simply tap the “Make Available Offline” option so that you can access the file even without an Internet connection.
