Google Drive

Overview

Google Drive is a cloud storage service provided by Google. The core function of this app is to enable users to store files on Google servers, synchronize files across devices, and share files. Although most Android phones today are pre-loaded with Google Drive along with other Google products, you can still download the app on the mobile app store and embrace its features. It is interesting to note that Google Drive is integrated with other Google products like Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. The files you have created using the aforementioned applications can be saved in Google Drive. The same thing goes with Google Photos which gives users the ability to store their photos in the cloud-based storage of Google Drive. With over 800 million active users and more than 2 trillion files stored, Google Drive is definitely one of the leading file storage apps on the market today.

Google DriveHow Google Drive Works?

Generally, Google Drive works the same way with other Cloud storage applications. The app offers free 15 GB storage which you can eventually upgrade by subscribing to Google’s fee-based plans. In case you do not have a pre-loaded Google Drive app on your device, you can freely download the app either from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store to get started. The first thing you need to do is to create a Google Account or better yet sign in using an existing account. Take note that this app allows you to save everything across different devices. Whatever you saved using the web-based version will be synced to all the devices that you are signed in.

Aside from its file storage capabilities, Google Drive also features a file-sharing function. The owner can regulate the public visibility of the file or folder. Files or folders can be shared privately with particular users having a Google account or you can also share it with non-Google users by providing them the secret URL for the specific file. The owner may also set an access level for regulating permissions. The three access levels offered are “can edit”, “can comment” and “can view”. Users with editing access can invite others to edit. Google Drive also allows users to view different file formats too from Native formats to raw image formats, and more.
