How to Use Microsoft Authenticator
- Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app from your app drawer.
- Microsoft Authenticator is a multifactor app for mobile devices that generates time-based codes used during the Two-Step Verification process. It means that aside from your typical login, you have to undergo another authentication before you can access your accounts.
- To get started, you need to turn on the 2-factor verification on your personal Microsoft account using your PC.
- On your computer, go to your Security basics page and sign-in using your personal Microsoft account. At the bottom of the Security basics page, choose the more security options link.
- Go to the Two-step verification section and choose to turn the feature On. You can also turn it off here if you no longer want to use it with your personal account.
- Once done, you can now add your Microsoft account to the app.
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app again from your app drawer.
- Select Add Account from the Customize and Control icon in the upper right.
- In the Add account page, choose the Personal account.
- Select Sign in with Microsoft to add your account. A QR code can be used when available, but you can always add your account by signing in with your username and password.
- Sign in to your personal account, using the appropriate email address, and then select Next.
- Enter your password, and then select Sign in. Your personal account is added to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- The Microsoft Authenticator app can also be used to sign in to any Azure AD account without using a password.
- You can add both Microsoft and non-Microsoft account with the Authenticator. There is an option to add a Google Account, GitHub, Amazon, and even your Facebook account.
